This Week Under The Book Shepherd’s Roof:
|
|
|
|
Hello and Good Publishing Day to YOU.
Each morning, I head to my office around 4 AM … I’m an early bird. Turning lights on, the fireplace, getting my first cup of tea – I quickly check my calendar, than email (noting what needs immediate responses); then turn my focus to what I "have to write" for the day—blogs, posts, and announcements. By then, Leah, my VA has reached out—she lets me know if I need
to respond to anything on social media, monitoring it during the morning hours; what I need to get to her that day and by the next day; reminding of must-dos on my calendar for the day; we brainstorm poster ideas; and then I start working on clients’ books. This week, one of my favorite clients, Pat Morgan, arrives from Tennesee to start the polishing on her next book, staying for a week and attending Saturday’s mini-Extravaganza Marketing event. Having dinner with my neighbors Saturday, I mentioned she would be here—they immediate said, "Of course, you will be having us
over for dinner … yes?" Yes, indeed—they love talking with her … and Pat is a talker and an amazing pioneer in her field! Her first book, The Concrete Killing Fields garnered many awards. I can hardly wait to see what this next one will deliver. Meanwhile, I have one that is on my radar to "finish" all the core writing on this week as well as the followup on the final layout of my own "surprise" book that flowed from me on the January PublishingAtSea.com cruise: When God Says NO- Revealing the YES When Adversity and Loss Are Present. It’s what I call a "heart book" … the response from early readers has been overwhelming. I’ll be bringing it out in hardback and it’s already up on Amazon—details here http://bit.ly/WhenGodSaysNO
Tick Tock … the March Speaking Unplugged is coming … are
you joining me? That is, if you want to sell truckloads of books. I’m going to be giving a full Book Review strategy gameplan with book reviewers contact names to one lucky attendee—value is $400. Details below. And, how was your week and what are you planning as you go forward?

Something to Noodle … Are You Sabotaging Your Success?
|
|
|
If you are waiting for the perfect sentence to drop in … if you are waiting for the perfect word to spark up your sentence … if you are waiting to get everything into the perfect zone so you can publish your work … you, dear author and writer … are a saboteur.
Understand this: perfection is procrastination. When you procrastinate, you sabotage your work.
I have two questions for you: Is there a book (or another) in you? Are you a perfectionist? I love it when I hear about new books and ideas bubbling along. I cringe when there’s a reveal from the author behind the new book and idea … the reveal that getting everything perfect is the driver to complete the project.
Most people think there is a book in them. And most don’t get them out. READ MORE

Question: I want to do a crowdfunding campaign. Where do I start? Answer: Understand that this is "work" … meaning you need to have your ducks lined up. Once your campaign starts—you stay put—your job is to monitor what’s going on; add to content as the campaign progresses and be very active on social media as well as emails with
your fans and followers.
Start with social media. Where are you? Do you have numbers to support you and your idea? A few hundred followers aren’t going to do it. Do you have "friends" and "family" who will step up to commit monies as well? What about "rewards" for those who commit? You need to have something that feels/looks like it has value. Do you have a short video for the site—also post out on social media. Remember—your
idea MUST be COMPELLING … most of your supporters will come from the site’s "regulars" --- meaning they don’t know you … yet.
That’s a start … but, get my book, The Crowdfunding Guide for Authors & Writers. Read it more than once. Look closely at the Timeline chapter. The Must Haves chapter. The Social Media chapter. Get it HERE.

Join me on MONDAYS at Noon Mountain Time for Facebook Live with Live at Noon with Judith Briles – The Book Shepherd. For me, it’s a shorty—always less than 30 minutes. Grab an early lunch (or a late one) and get the latest in publishing tips, author strategies, and book marketing goosing ideas. Most times, it will be just me. Sometimes, I will have a guest—someone within my team of publishing pros that
I work with and refer my clients to.

You can pick my brain … minimum time is 30 minutes. If you need one-on-one-time with me, I’m always open for a few minutes to give you some quick input. But, and it’s a BIG BUT, many call and expect far more than a few minutes.
